Who invented World Bicycle Day?
So, do you have the answer? On April 12, 2018, the United Nations (UN) decided to establish World Bicycle Day. This was done to spark interest in soft mobilities and highlight the use of bicycles!
Moreover, many of our readers didn't wait for this date to cycle. But this day is a perfect opportunity to spread the benefits of cycling and, above all, to raise even more awareness about our environmental impact. At NEOCA, we've decided to put ecology at the heart of our projects, so we invite you to do the same, share as much as possible on social media on Friday, June 3, 2022, it's our celebration for everyone!
Why dedicate a day to the bicycle?
Behind this day, the UN has several objectives. Ecology, of course, but the main goal of this enthusiasm is to promote regular physical activities, which are incredibly beneficial for our health.
At any age, walking, running, cycling... All are relatively simple actions to undertake and have a significant impact on our well-being. The World Health Organization (WHO) strongly recommends engaging in one of these activities for 20 minutes every day. The benefits?
There are many, but among them are: Reduced risks of heart disease, stroke, certain cancers, and diabetes. And then, quite simply, who doesn't love that feeling of well-being provided by a moment of complete freedom on their bike, with the wind in their hair?
Sustainable development and the bicycle
It can't be said enough, cycling is an excellent way to reduce your carbon footprint. A good deed for your health AND for the planet.
Thus, this day draws attention to the bicycle, a simple, affordable, clean, and environmentally friendly sustainable mode of transportation.
As you might have guessed, cycling helps to clean up city air, reduce traffic jams, and reduce inequalities by supporting the fight against climate change.
